Wordle is an online word game that has been trending for a couple of months.

Who owns Wordle?

The creator of the game is Josh Wardle but recently he sold Wordle to the New York Times for a figure "in the low seven figures."

The game will become a part of the New York Times puzzle service but Wardle assures you that Wordle will remain free to play and your current streaks should remain the same.

How does Wordle work?

Wordle can be played here. The site has a new word for you every 24 hours.

Wordle gives players six chances to guess a randomly selected five-letter word. When you guess the letter and its position in the word correctly, it will show up green. If you guess the letter correct but the position wrong, it appears in yellow. The goal of this game is to have each correct letter appear in the right spot so that they show up green.

Pro Tips

Your first guess is important

Tyler Glaiel, a game designer, says he tried to figure out the best possible first guess and decided that we should start with the word "roate." Isn’t that interesting? If you’re curious about how he came to this conclusion, he explains it here.

Avoid reusing grays

Don't use the letters that have been marked as gray. We know that this tactic makes coming up with the next word much harder, but it's well worth it. Your efforts will pay off.
